The Department of Health have today announced the latest quarterly statistics on NHS cancer waiting times. The figures are encouraging for patients with breast symptoms, with 92 per cent of patients being seen by a specialist within two weeks of their GP referral.
Maggie Alexander, Director of Policy, Education & Influencing at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, said:
"Breakthrough Breast Cancer is encouraged by today's significantly improved results on waiting times for cancer services. However we are concerned that patients with breast symptoms in some areas of the country are still facing a long and anxious wait for diagnosis.
"Every day you wait to be seen can feel like an eternity when you suspect you may have breast cancer. We expect all Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) not only to meet, but also to sustain a maximum of a two week wait from GP referral to seeing a specialist."
